Multicoloured tattoos

Our PicoStar and PicoSure lasers can achieve impressive clearance of difficult ink colours. The PicoStar adopts an Nd:YAG dual wavelength (1064/532nm) which enables us to treat ink colours like black, red, yellow and orange. The PicoSure operates with a 755nm wavelength and allows us to treat ink colours like blue, purple and green. Both lasers give us the ability to treat all ink colours.

Hard-to-remove black ink

Tattoo removal using the PicoStar works incredibly and impressively on hard-to-remove black ink. It uses the latest technology with the highest power to generate the shortest pulse duration with 300 ps (picoseconds) for the most effective treatment. The ultra-short pulses allow bursting of pigment particles without any thermal side effects or scars.

Stubborn tattoos

You can have those stubborn, previously treated tattoos removed using both the PicoStar and PicoSure. The pulse width of 300 ps on the PicoStar allows for unprecedented treatment options and shatters pigment for optimised results.

Picosecond vs Traditional Lasers

Traditional Lasers

Traditional lasers rely on heat to destroy tattoo ink. This technology is known as a photothermal reaction, delivering heat to the tattoo ink and also to the surrounding tissue. The heat breaks up the tattoo ink into small particles. Traditional nanosecond lasers can often require between 10-20 treatments to achieve good clearance.

PicoSure & PicoStar

PicoSure and PicoStar laser systems delivers a photomechanical impact called pressure-wave which shatters the ink particles without harming the surrounding skin. In turn, the tattoo ink is shattered into tiny dust-like particles. These particles are much more rapidly disposed of by the body. This means better clearance of the tattoo with fewer treatments.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

Tattoo removal treatment causes a certain amount of physical pain and irritation to the area being treated but it is not the same for everyone. Laser tattoo removal will hurt to a certain extent – it’s usually compared to the pain of an elastic band being ‘pinged’ onto your skin. At Skin Renew, we use the latest advanced laser technology to minimise discomfort.

What are the side effects of laser tattoo removal?

As with many clinical treatments, side effects are a given and most are a sign that your body is beginning to heal. You might experience some redness, swelling, and minor blistering around the treated area. These side effects are temporary and your skin should heal completely within one to two weeks.

How many sessions do I need?

This all depends on the size and type of tattoo you have. Every person and every tattoo will respond to the PicoSure laser differently. The size of the tattoo and the colours used will also help determine how many sessions you’ll need.

Can I go in the sun after laser tattoo removal?

It is always a good idea to avoid direct sunlight. Ideally, the tattoo will be out of the sunlight for at least six weeks. In order for laser tattoo removal to work effectively, skin colour needs to be natural and healthy. This will give us the best chance of removing your tattoo in the fewest sessions possible.
